Boehner’s Office Enlists Admiral Ackbar to Promote a Tweet

The email below went out this afternoon to the gentlemen and ladies of the political press. The sender? Michael Steel from John Boehner’s office (not, alas, Michael Steele of the RNC). The subject? A tweet. This may be another first, our second first of the day — using an email to promote a tweet.

Subject: Like Admiral Ackbar Says, “Retweet!”

Folks — I usually stick to emails rather than Twitter, but a short while ago the esteemed White House press secretary (a bespectacled NCSU graduate with a penchant for pastel ties) sent a “tweet” about Republicans being in “disarray” over tax cuts … Wanted to make sure you saw the following tweet in response from @GOPLeader Boehner, which was re-tweeted by Whip Cantor and Conference Chairman Pence, and a host of other House Republicans. They speak for themselves. Tweet to live, live to tweet – steel

GOPWhip: RT @GOPLeader Attn @presssec: Republicans are unified: to boost our economy, we need to stop ALL tax hikes and cut spending now

Original Tweet: http://twitter.com/GOPWhip/statuses/24411283931

gopconference: RT @GOPLeader Attn @presssec: Republicans are unified: to boost our economy, we need to stop ALL tax hikes and cut spending now

Original Tweet: http://twitter.com/gopconference/statuses/24411450079

Ahem! I’ll beat the grammarians in the crowd to this one: Michael, shouldn’t it be “AS Admiral Ackbar says,” rather than “LIKE Admiral Ackbar says?” The English language says, “It’s a twap!”
