Actually, we got to know him pretty well…which is why he’s had to suspend his campaign. I’d say, “better luck next time,” but that would be insincere.
Now we get to see if Mitt Romney can actually build a national campaign to compete with the Obama grassroots reelection machine. Should be fun to watch!

The good Senator from Nebraska Iowa [d'oh!] called President Obama “stupid” on Twitter the other day for his remarks about the Supreme Court and the health care law, with results one would expect (my fave response, from David Axelrod: “Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!”").
As we’ve said here before, 140 characters is a lot of room in which to stick a foot in one’s mouth, though I bet the Senator’s supporters wouldn’t actually see this one as a gaffe — to them, it’s speaking truth to power (and note that Grassley’s even featured his feed jokingly in a campaign video). But this incident does remind of a quote about Sen. Grassley that appeared in our pages a couple of years ago. Referring to his Democratic challenger, a friend said, “As long as he has a Twitter feed, she has a chance.” Macaca in the making?
